Freedom Brothers Pizzeria & Alehouse

About us

After spending decades honing their skills in the restaurant, bar, and beverage industries, Naperville residents and brothers Corey and Dave Svoboda have embarked on a new journey, translating their wealth of experience into their own unique venture. In March of 2017, the Svobodas realized their dream by opening Freedom Brothers Pizzeria & Alehouse in Plainfield. The name "Svoboda" carries the meaning of freedom in Slavic languages, and this establishment reflects the brothers' creative freedom, drawing inspiration from their family's legacy. Their ancestors had proudly operated Svoboda's Nickelodeon Tavern in Chicago Heights for an impressive 80 years. The idea of starting their own restaurant took root when Corey, having worked at Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix, developed a passion for wood-fired, brick oven pizza. Eager to bring this culinary delight to their community, the Svobodas acquired a 12,000-pound brick oven, transporting it all the way from Texas to its current location at 11914 S. Route 59 in Plainfield. In doing so, they aimed to fill a niche in the restaurant industry by combining craft beer, artisan cocktails, farm-to-table organic ingredients, and their shared love for rock & roll. This offers a refreshing alternative for Chicago transplants seeking more than the typical suburban pizza chain experience. Freedom Brothers distinguishes itself from being merely a sports bar, although sports enthusiasts can still catch their favorite games on a selection of TV screens. The atmosphere is set with iconic rock legends like AC/DC and Foo Fighters performing on the remaining screens, creating an energetic ambiance. It's not just a restaurant; it's an immersive experience. After all, when was the last time you attended a quiet rock concert? The establishment boasts an impressive lineup, featuring 23 beers on tap, a substantial portion of which is sourced from local breweries. The extensive whiskey collection boasts over 200 varieties, complemented by an outstanding wine list and craft cocktails crafted by the skilled staff. At Freedom Brothers, the commitment is clear—to deliver an unforgettable dining experience marked by exceptional service, the freshest food, and a celebration of craft beer, all set against the backdrop of the greatest rock and roll hits. The Svobodas invite you to savor their passions: pizza, beer, whiskey, and the timeless rhythm of rock and roll.

Talk of opening a restaurant of their own started after Corey worked for a Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix where he fell in love with wood-fired, brick oven pizza. So the Svobodas bought a 12,000-pound brick oven and shipped it from Texas to 11914 S. Route 59 in Plainfield. The brothers said they're meeting a niche in the restaurant industry of craft beer, craft cocktails, farm-to-table organic, never frozen ingredients and their true passion of rock & roll. There are a lot of transplants from Chicago who may be looking for something different than a suburban pizza chain, well now you have it.

This is not a sports bar, however sports will be on a few of the many TV's. The diners will be entertained by their favorite rock legends such as AC/DC and Foo Fighters performing at concerts on the remaining screens. It will be a little louder than most restaurants but this isn't just any old restaurant. When was the last time you went to a quiet rock concert?
